Description

Photograph from a late-1940s downtown North Bay parade This undated photograph is from a Main Street, North Bay, parade featuring the North Bay Pipes and Drums (it would have been the Canadian Legion Pipe Band at the time). At least two band members of the time are identifiable, including Pipe Sergeant Reg Bailey (far right) and piper Harry Graham (second from the left). They are wearing the band’s pre- Legion-sponsorship tartan (likely Hunting Stewart) with new patrol jackets. The North Bay Legion took over sponsorship of the band in 1948 and, over a few years, gradually transitioned the uniform from green doublet tunics and Hunting Stewart tartan to dark blue patrol jackets and Royal Stewart tartan. This photograph was donated with permission of Harry Graham’s daughters: Heather, Nancy, and Susan Graham.
