025.16.08Description
This photograph shows the North Bay Pipes and Drums, leading not only their home
ceremonial trio (pipe band plus two Legion colour parties/flag bearers) but also the
convention parade. The band members are in full dress uniforms and under the direction of
Drum Major Jan Van Der Rassel (in front with the mace) and Pipe Major Bob Jolley (front
row, far left).
The membership of the band has varied in numbers over its lifetime, from six to about 30
combined pipers and drummers. In this photograph, taken in the spring of 1983, it was near its
peak with about 26 pipers and drummers. It also shows the band’s status among Ontario
Legion bands at the time because it led the convention parade.
