Description
Print of black and white photograph of the first official raising of a BOMARC nuclear missile on the late morning of 13 September 1962 at the North Bay air base before military personnel and a group of Ontario MPP's including Premier John Robarts. The group then toured the SAGE complex, then still under construction (until a year later), in the afternoon. The "coffin" (missile silo) had blast away walls and a water-filled floor (the black area) to dissipate the heat of the launch. The nuclear warheads were loaded between December 1963 and April 1964.
The print comes with a paper tag, glued from the reverse of the matte board, fitting over the top proper right corner of the print. The facing paper has written by typewriter "Assignment: The First BOMARC".Creator
