Description

(1808-1894)." A photograph of a hand-colored lithographic plate after the German painter Carl Werner showing the "al-Buraq Wall" or the Jews' Wailing Wall or the Western Wall, during his visit to Jerusalem. The plate features the massive wall, built of large, ancient stones with uneven surfaces, and small plants growing between the cracks. It also shows a group of men wearing traditional attire reflecting that period, along with women in long white garments covering their heads and bodies during prayer. This plate was included by Hisham Khatib in his book "Jerusalem, Bethlehem & the Holy Land & Egypt: Paintings by Carl Werner (1808-1894)."
