Description

(1808-1894)." A photograph of a hand-colored lithographic plate after the German painter Carl Werner, showing the Grotto del Latte (Chapel of the Milk Grotto) in the Church of the Nativity, during his visit to Bethlehem. The painter added the figure of a mother breastfeeding her infant as a symbol of the Grotto. He also highlighted the stone features of the chapel and the huge columns. This plate was included by Hisham Khatib in his book "Jerusalem, Bethlehem & the Holy Land & Egypt: Paintings by Carl Werner (1808-1894)."
