Description

(1808-1894)." A photograph of a hand-colored lithographic plate after the German painter Carl Werner showing an interior view of the Armenian Chapel also known as the Chapel of St. Helena or Chapel of St. John, located in the lower level of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. The plate includes the ancient stone features of the vault, the icons hanging on the wall, and shows the sturdy dome supported by four massive columns with distinctive capitals. There are also some people praying. This plate was included by Hisham Khatib in his book "Jerusalem, Bethlehem & the Holy Land & Egypt: Paintings by Carl Werner (1808-1894)."
