Description

This photograph was a working study for the artist, who created a large-scale painting (80” x 80”) of the same title and composition. Flack’s assemblage of objects includes playing cards and a die, in homage to her mother, who was an inveterate gambler. The artist includes a self-portrait next to her mother in the open locket, a gold necklace bearing the initial F for Flack, strewn nearby. Traditional Vanitas objects including a clock, ripened fruit, and a dewy rose petal to evoke the ephemeral nature of life.
