This well-documented photograph depicts the exterior of Tammen's Deutsche Apotheke (German Pharmacy) in Eureka, South Dakota. It is related to a second photograph of Parkhurst's Restaurant from the same Mehlhaff family collection. The reverse bears the address of Mrs. F. K. Mehlhaff of Eureka, likely identifying a former owner of the photograph. A modern handwritten note reads: "Dad and John Maag at the door of Drug Store. Straub's furniture store now stands on this location." A typed note corroborates those details and adds that the business later became the Koch-Gerdes Drug Store.
Of particular interest is the large painted advertisement covering the side of the building, appearing to include both German and English text. While much of the lettering remains difficult to decipher, words including "Doctor," "Bitters," "Syrup," and "Tammen & Koch" can be distinguished.
