This early 1900s interior photograph appears to show a hardware store. A well-dressed man stands behind the long counter, while a young boy in bib overalls poses to his right. The handwritten note on the back reads: “Herbert J. Kleehammer – 1st job 1913 – Age 13 – Oct. 11, 1913.”
Preliminary research suggests the boy is Herbert John Kleehammer (1899–1990). His Find a Grave memorial lists his birthdate as October 11, 1899, and his burial at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Detroit, Michigan.
