Dear Bessie:
I am still here, and may spend tomorrow here also, and from here expect to go to Oregon City, where I will probably spend a day or so. From there will go into Portland, where I will be until I advise you.
I am quite well, and hope this may find you all well as usual. I am shaping up an agency deal here, and will leave with a nice line of business.
Today has not been so rainy as yesterday, but still there is some moisture. Hope the weather conditions with you are improving.
With my dearest love to you all
I am lovingly your husband

Notes
This letter is especially important for understanding the structure of early 20th-century business travel:
The writer moves city-to-city in short stays (1–2 days), indicating:
A tightly scheduled sales route
Dependence on rail connections
The phrase “shaping up an agency deal” reveals:
A decentralized business model
Use of local representatives or agents
Communication habits:
He does not yet know how long he will remain in Portland (“until I advise you”)
Travel was fluid and dependent on business outcomes
Weather remains a dominant factor:
Even slight improvement (“not so rainy”) is noteworthy
Highlights how environment directly affected mobility and work
