Photo of a Salvation Army canteen pulling a parade float in Minneapolis, Minnesota for the summer Aquatennial Celebration. The story, taped to the back, tells about the canteen being deployed in response to floods and tornadoes that struck the state. The float is decorated with a variety of Salvation Army emblems, including a giant bonnet over a globe, an oversized Bible, a Red Shield, and a female mannequin wearing a Salvation Army uniform. The side of the float has a tagline: 100 Years of Service. The canteen was awarded a prize.
The Minneapolis Aquatennial was started in 1940 as a summer celebration of the recreational activities offered by the lakes and rivers around the city. The festivities take place during the third full week of July with multiple events occurring over four days, cut back from the original 10 day celebration.Acquisition
