Description

Photo of the back of a Salvation Army canteen pulling a parade float in Minneapolis, Minnesota for the summer Aquatennial Celebration. The float is decorated with a variety of Salvation Army emblems, including a giant bonnet over a globe, an oversized Bible, a Red Shield, and a female mannequin wearing a Salvation Army uniform and is lit up for the night parade. The side of the float has a tagline: 100 Years of Service. The story, taped to the back, tells about how the float appeared in both the day and the night parades and the electric lighting on the float was accomplished by donations. The Minneapolis Aquatennial was started in 1940 as a summer celebration of the recreational activities offered by the lakes and rivers around the city. The festivities take place during the third full week of July with multiple events occurring over four days, cut back from the original 10 day celebration.
