Broadside card - A Soldier's Alphabet, printed on thin cardstock. There is a border printed around the edges comprised of red and blue wavy lines, punctuated with shields at each corner. The shields have a top blue section with white stars and a bottom section of red and white stripes. An eagle with outspread wings is printed in the center of the top lines. Two American flags, with crisscrossed poles, are printed in the center of the bottom lines. The printer, Kuhl Press, has its name printed in the lower left corner and the author's name and rank and the copyright date, 1917, is printed near the lower edge.
The broadside card consists of twenty six poem style entries with each letter of the alphabet representing a word or phrase that is associated with military life and culture in the World War I era. The author, Clifford Heard, served as a musician with the 104th US Army Field Band within the 1st New York National Guard.Acquisition
