Scope and Content

Embossed paper postcard with cartoon illustration on front. The image depicts a Salvation Army uniformed man and women, both with heart shaped heads. The man holds a cornet and song sheet. The woman wears a red yoked infant style bodice, blue skirt, and bonnet. She holds a timbrel (tambourine) and donation jar. A red flag with blue ribbon streamers waves behind them. The flag contains a message "Sincere Admiration" The back of the postcard contains "Post Card" in a calligraphic font. It also has a section for address and another for correspondence. The sections are separated by lines. The printing is in gold ink. A green one cent Benjamin Franklin stamp (printed 1908-1910) has been glued to the card. The postage cancellation stamp dates the card to February 12, 1910. The card was mailed from Star Junction, PA to Mr. William Dobson of Pekin, MD. The message reads: "Star Junction, PA. Feb. 11, 1910 Hello. Will [sic] here is the old socialist in his new band uniform. how are you getting along. from McGee."
