Girl Guards service award. Wood oval frame with a piece of leather inside, stretched to the frame and attached with leather cording. Three beaded strings hang off the bottom of the frame -- The one in the middle ends with a black wooden arrowhead and the ones on each side end with a white shell. Hand-written text (in blue and red) on the leather reads: "AWARDED TO/ CLARA MUNCASTER/ BY THE/ DETROIT HARDING/ GIRL GUARDS TROOP/ SALVATION ARMY/ FOR OUTSTANDING/ MERITORIOUS SERVICE/ 1957".
Presented to Detroit Harding guard leader Clara Muncaster (1909-1989) for meritorious service. In the 1920s, Muncaster was a guard at the Harding Corps. She continued on into the role of guard leader serving from the 1930s through the 1950s. Crafted of leather, wood, shells and beads by Walter Schoof, a noted handicraft artist from Imlay City, Michigan. Schoof was active with scouting and was awarded a Silver Beaver from the Boy Scouts in 1945.Acquisition
