The rudder is painted with the French tri-color (blue, white, red) nationality markings in vertical stripes. On the white stripe is the letter "S" ,which stands for the model (likely SPAD S.VII). The number "2" (likely the aircraft number) is painted on the back side of the fuselage. Georges Guynemer was a top fighter ace for France. He had 54 victories during World War I and was named a French national hero at the time of his death (went missing on a mission, September 11, 1917).
