Description

2016.11.95ab: Pair of shoes/clogs. Wooden sole/heels and black leather uppers. They are closed-toe (with open heel). Leather upper has a cresecent moon-shaped cutout with scalloped edges. Along the toe side of the cutout and coming out from each point on the heel side of cutout is an embossed linear design compiled of two interweaving lines. In between the two linear designs on the heel side of the cutout are three embossed circular (floral?) motifs. Family lore indicates that, based on the shoe size, the clogs were either worn by Pa or Cecil. WWI era newspaper article indicates that Cecil Burdick brought several souvenirs home from her war service in France and Germany, including a pair of wood soled shoes.
