Description

A WWI United States Army aluminum mess kit that consists of two separate pieces: a lid, and a pan. The pan, also known as a tin, is a rounded rectangular shape that features a rim the lid, or frying pan, is the same rounded rectangular shape as the pan and features a rim but is slightly smaller so that each piece can nestel inside the other, it also serves as a lid for the pan. The handle is soldered to the pan and fixed on a hinge, the handle can be folded over the lid and locked into place under the rim of the pan to hold the kit together for easy travel. A circular pin is soldered to the lid perhaps for easy travel from pack to mess hall. The words US USA and 1916 (or 1918) stamped into the bottom of the handle.
