Scope and Content

Motor bus pass assigned to Captain Jessie Winters of the Salvation Army on May 5, 1919. The header/title of the document reads: "HEADQUARTERS/ BASE SECTION NO.5, A.P.O.716./ MOTOR BUSS PASS". The pass allowed Winters transportation on all motor bus lines at those headquarters. It was for official business purposes and was only valid that day. Probably war related. The headquarters referred to on this pass appear to be the headquarters for the American Expeditionary Forces (A.E.F.) in Brest, France. Typed black ink on white/cream paper. The blank spaces are filled out with pencil. Towards the lower righthand corner is a rectangular stamp printed in red ink that reads: "CAPT. B. K. CUBBAGE/ C.O. HDQRS GARAGE/ 5 MAI 1919/ BASE SECTION NO 5/ A.P.O.716". A note (somewhat illegible) is written in blue ink on the back of the pass. On the left: [DELIVER] [BOX] TO [PIER] [#7] AND [IT] WILL BE [SENT] TO [???] [DEP?] HOBOKEN, NEW JERSEY - AND [HELD] UNTIL [WE] [CALL] FOR [?A?E] [ON] [??????]. THERE WILL BE NO CHARGES AND NO [?????] CONSIDERATIONS On the right: NO OF BOX [BX] X [??8] [SENT] [FROM] [BREST] MAY 5TH - 1919
