Description

Black and white horizontal photograph of the Sky Ride at the Century of Progress, Chicago. The photograph shows one end of the line (one tower with parallel, horizontal cables extending out over the water). Two "rocket cars" can be seen travelling across the cables. Written on the back of the photograph in blue ink is "SKY RIDE --/ CENTURY OF PROGRESS/ CHICAGO" and "FERN ANN GOODWIN". Also stamped on the back in black in ink are the numbers "685". Fern Ann Goodwin was Floyd and Minnie Burdick's granddaughter and Cecil Goodwin (Burdick)'s daughter. The Sky Ride was a transporter bridge that ferried people across the lagoon (Burnham Harbor) in the center of the Fair. It was located near Northeryl Island and wwas demolished after the Fair.
