Description

Black and white vertical photograph of a military man standing in a field next to/in front of a row of damaged buildings. The man wears military style dress (including overcoat). The field is overgrown with rocks and rubble scattered throughout. The buildings were damaged in the war and look abandoned. Written on the back of the photograph in dark ink is "RUINS OF VERDUN". Verdun is a city in northeastern France. It was the site of WWI's longest lasting battles, referred to as the Battle of Verdun, which took place in 1916.
