Description

Photo taken on the opening day of the Red Shield Club in Kansas City, Missouri. Several servicemen are seated on an array of outdoor lounge furniture, reading or chatting. Two male Salvation Army officers, identified as Major P.L. DeBevoise and Adjutant P. Ray Thomas (club director) are seated on either side of a small table holding a coffee pot. Adjutant Ellenor Thomas (later Duerr) is standing in front of a bookcase, flanked by two soldiers. The sign over the bookcase has text: Free Lending Library The Salvation Army.
