The foreground of the photograph shows United States Navy sailor/crewman tending to a 3"/50 caliber gun on the fantail of the U.S.S. Rambler. In the background is Destroyer tender 'Bridgeport,' with two destroyers at her side. The U.S.S. Rambler sailed for the Azores (Portugal) in November of 1917, then transferred to the French coast in 1918 for the remainder of the war.
