Description

17,042 - CHURCH OFFERING PLATE WITH BLACK OUTER LETTERING AND UNFINISHED CROSS CENTER. Center engraved saying: "Give Alms Of Thy Goods." Alms plates like this 14 inch across, wooden artifact, were used to collect money, change, and small handicraft items made for the poor or needy. The alms plate was taken around the church pews where it was large enough to hold non-monetary items such as gloves, mittens, socks, or other items that could be used by the poor. Even food items such as bread or baked goods were often contributed and then immediately distributed after the service.
