1873 - A HOSPITAL SUNDAY. THANK OFFERING OF THE CONVALESCENT
This page of Victorian social history is a woodcut engraving, taken from the June 21, 1873 issue of the Illustrated London News. Titled: Hospital Sunday.
In the late1800's to 1930's, in this artifact 1873, offerings were taken up in church once a month to support the local doctor and if there, medical clinic or small "hospital". Thus began a tradition of religious institutions or churches supporting or even naming hospitals. The artist's rendering depicts an injured man, contributing back during the collection for the local hospital and doctor in gratitude.
The image size is 9 inches by 10.5 inches.
