19,029 - BAPTIST MISSIONS CENTENARY. This is a medallion minted to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the Baptist Missionary Society formed on October 2nd, 1792. This large almost 2 inch in diameter medallion coin, was minted in 1892. The reverse side of the coin commemorated Baptist missionaries who left legacies to Baptist Missionary efforts in that first 100 years. Listed are the last names of famous missionaries: Carey, Fuller, Marshman, and Ward. Global missionary efforts were recounted and remembered in the countries list on the reverse: Africa, India, China, and the emancipation, freeing of slaves brought from Africa to the West Indies. This medallion pre-dates the death of famous woman missionary - Lottie Moon, which is why she probably was not listed.Collection
