Description

1933 – B FDR: FAITH HOPE AND CHARITY This original, color, public works program poster shows a picture of president Franklin Delano Roosevelt with the slogan, “From Depression To Prosperity; The Spirit Of 1933.” This was the 2nd line to the Roosevelt campaign theme: Faith, Hope, and Charity. Franklin Delano Roosevelt was the only president to be elected 4 times in United States history. This poster came from his early campaigns. Roosevelt understood and piggy-backed onto the Faith, Hope, and Charity movement which was coming to an end after spanning almost 150 years. To have faith, one had to hold hope, and the majority of people knew that hope came from a grounded faith in God, and to be charitable to your neighbors and support your church. The phrase worked in reverse as well. To have a charitable spirit, one had to have hope, and most would agree at the time, hope came from faith in God. 1933 saw the beginning of the Dust Bowl which was starting just as the Great Depression was coming to an end. Both historic events left Americans in dire need for jobs to produce income. was sponsored and produced by the American Society Of Unemployment Relief. The image size is 9 ¾ inches by 13 inches.
