1937 – B SBC PUBLICATION WITH CANDELABRA GRAPHIC ATTACHED TO CP BATTERY: HOW THE COOPERATIVE PROGRAM WORKS
This is an original publication flyer and poster used by the Southern Baptist Convention in the pre-world war II era. Using a candelabra image the flyer depicts how the Cooperative Program works.
To establish legacies of giving in the Southern Baptist Convention, a clear plan for giving across the denomination was needed. Immediately after the 75 Million Campaign, and the Baptist tithers campaigns of the 1930's, A program to consistently fund the concise outreach programs of the Convention needed to be established. This poster easily communicated this plan and depicted it using this candelabra menorah model. Of interest is the candelabra of 7 primary programs connected to the power source: the battery depicted as the Cooperative Program.
Local churches take 10% of their weekly offerings and send that to the state convention. Monthly, the state convention sends a portion on to the national denomination headquarters in Nashville, Tennessee. Nationally, this is how funds which originally stemmed from local congregations were "tithed" forward to the denomination's headquarters to support the 7 primary outreach programs.
This has caused the SBC Cooperative Program to become the longest standing, consistently funded program, of any denomination in or outside the United States.
Image size is 5 inches by 7 inches.
