27,000 - 4 OPENING XTRA-LARGE,TABLE TOP, OFFERING BOX
In the theme of the well-known giving program of the time, this large box is a type of Joash Giving Box. Approximately 2 feet in length and 10 inches tall. This large giving box was a bit more advanced than typical Joash Giving Boxes. Note the four large 3 inch holes to further designate the gifts to be brought during the Joash Giving Box Sunday(s). In this manner, parishioners could be encouraged to give generously, and to designations they felt concerned about:
- the church in general,
- missions around the world which the church supported,
- the pastor(s) and their families, and
any special focus emphasis for giving during the Joash giving period.
Following the detailed story located in 2nd Kings 12 verses 9 - 11. This is a large hinged box with some metal rivet detail around the edges. This was crafted locally by a church member to follow the box design model in 2nd Kings 12 verse 9.
This large box was central to an annual Fall season harvest giving program usually named "Joash Giving Box" Sunday. Parishioners were challenged to bring a sacrificlal gift to walk up to the podium and put inside the large slot. These gifts were sometimes placed inside of giving envelopes or just placed inside the large box. It was not unusual to craft a wooden box with a large giving slot to be 1 1/2 feet or more in length and a foot tall. The emphasis was on a large box, and collective giving by as many parishioners or all if possible.Collection
