5503 - DAVID LIVINGSTONE MISSIONARY "RESCUE" BANK
This type of wooden, short-handled bank was used in churches to collect funds for volunteer rescuers who desired to "go find David Livingstone, assumed lost in Africa."
The relief pictures and drawings on these not-mass produced short-handle collectors are in very good condition. This effort to raise funds to be used in trying to locate one of the world's most famous missionaries to Africa, pre-dated the actual finding of Dr. David Livingstone, only to find out that Livingstone had left purposefully and informed very few that he had intention to impetuously, leave everything and travel to go to Africa to teach natives.
