OXFSM.2020.14.1Description
A dinner plate with a green floral owl design and gilt border.
This plate was part of a dinner service that was owned by Griselda Garner’s family. It was given to Griselda’s mother by her aunt, who said that the owls watching her eat gave her indigestion. Alan Garner first saw the dinner service when he dined with Griselda’s family. The design of owls made of flowers was one of the inspirations for his novel The Owl Service.
