Mike NolandScope and Content
Mike Nolan is a contemporary Chicago Artist. This piece was included in his first show at Deson-Zaks gallery. The piece was purchased by Susann Craig at his home before the show went up, (during the January snowstorm of 1979).
It is one of his best works. John Cane, Lael Johnson, and Carl Hammer were interested in buying this piece.
Michael Noland's paintings are influenced by traditional American scenes and Chicago Imagist that are molded to his unique vision. Noland creates vitality through exaggeration in form, repetition of line, and saturation of color. Common views and unique animals seem both darkly surreal and amusing.
"Growing up in the area of Oklahoma, known as Tornado Alley, gave me a healthy love and respect for the power and beauty of nature. I grew up where the landscape and sky were very much a part of my everyday life. To this day I have a healthy respect of nature’s power and beauty. I hope that this love and respect comes through in these paintings." - Michael NolandCreate Date
