Dear Rhea
I just received your welcome letters of the 12th Jan, and in it upon wanted me to be like Pat to write and let you know if I didn't get it. Well as I did get it, I am going to write and let you know any way, but I can't understand why I haven't see any of the letters as you say you have written every week and I certainly haven't see more than about four letter from you altogether Rhea. But perhaps they come along taken eh?
Well Rhea I thought that we would be in France by this time. For we learnt for sure last week that we were to leave for France Thursday but it is now Sunday and we're still in Witley Camp and there we will be for some time yet - all tho it wont take too long to pull out & we have gotten everything ready. All the lumbers full of ammunition etc.
Well Rhea I see by your letters that you are having quite cold weather being in Canada just at present but you say no skating, and I [?] a tree with you that the fact that you haven't any skating is the worstest of all" Ha ha.
The trenches here is also quite cold. With lots of frost this is the coldest they have had it in England for some considerable time & isn't anywhere near zero tho.
Yes Rhea [?] [?] has been real good to you, you must have been a very good little girl. I mean big girl of course you are not little anymore. It wouldn't do to call any young lady little thats got a young man to call on her isn't that so haha. I am teasing you now Rhea, so go get mad, no I not jealous, haha, let me see what out of that list did we give you, now it wasn't the necklace, that came from Papa, oh I have [?], how about the winter red gloves eh? Ain't I right? Of course you'll say no [?] if I am.
Yes Rhea I have heard the piece [?], [?], [?], Dula, and yes I rather like it. So you have started with your [?] again? If thats good, but see that you stay in at nights and study ha ha.
