Dear Rhea: I suppose it will be a big surprise to you to receive this letter this letter. I joined the u.s navy about two months ago. I have guest(?) got any rating as a second class seaman. Up till now I have been at the newport training station. But now I have been transferred aboard ship. We will be in port for two or three months yet. We have got it early here. One drilling and one work at newport we drilled 8 hours a day. This is the only life. I am [?]ever sick. have gained eight lbs since I joined. the sun is awfully hot here. I am tanned like a [?]oon. I will get a photo taken next week send you one. Rhea Beuy(?) at [???} Kylee.
