Dear Papa,
It has been so internally hot that I didn't have the ambition to write a letter. But this afternoon it rained and it is nice + cool now.
Conditions when we first came were not very good we have no floor in our tent and the floor was 6 inches deep in sand - quite dry of course. All week it was so hot & dry we did not sweat. We bought some Japanese [???????] At angus and a table from some captains I knew who were leaving the camp. So now we are all right as each morning a private draws up the tent + makes the beds (we sleep on iron cots)
The day is quite long, we get up at 5:30, physical drill at 6, breakfast at 7, lecture at 8, drill 9 to 12, dill again 2 to 4. So you see it is a much more treacherous day than in Toronto.
The meals are not bad but we have to pay $1.20 for them out of our $1.70.
I did not go home yesterday as we were afraid we might have to try our exams sooner than are expected on account of the chance that the boys with us who were imperial men would be called to go to England. Their call came so sudden they had to leave within an hour so they couldn't try their exam, we will therefore try ours with the regular school - I think in about two weeks.
The whole country here is a vast dessert of sand with seasonal [?????] Of [?????] + Copse. But the water is peerless + there is a swimming pool which I use everyday - in a river going through the camp. This afternoon it being so hot we carried our camp chair down to the [??????] In the shade of the woods living the [??????] & Stayed there all day.
We are all planning to get a pass to go to Toronto Friday night till Sunday night so I think you can count on that but I will let you know definitely in a couple days. Hoping everything is O.K.
