Dear Papa,
I was unable to write to you last week because I met eight of the boys from my old company who came down from Oxford on their way to the flying school, as you may well imagine we had quite a reunion because they were my best friends in the company. The usual was I didn't have s minutes time t myself to write letters. I was on weekend leave too and was planning to write because Dick Weaver and I had found a swell boarding house where we had a [????] Room for the night with a fireplace and couch and big [????] Chairs. It was the first time I had been inside a house in England, and was a much pleasent feeling as may be [????]. We intend to stay there whenever we have leave as it is much cheaper than a hotel and more cosy and comfortable. The [????]lady has been to Canada and was [????] To Canadians and [??] [????] Parial to them.
Well how a great deal of personal events happened last week, we all paired into "C" squad all night, I got 82%, furthermore I got your 50 euros the day after I decided to [????] You for more money. I was worrying as I was in debt and had no hope of getting away of my now money back for some time. So I decided to [????] You for some money and the next morning I got a letter from the bank evolving your [?????]. I was tickled to death and it was fine of you papa. I certainly needed it, I immediately paid back my debts and mailed the rest back to the bank to deposit.
I wrote Mr.Denton too about those papers of Mis.Crowthens and hope that you were able to find them, and that her matter was dealt with to her satisfaction. I got a letter from Jean, Hermons wife, and met her in London Thursday evening and spent the evening with her. She and Hermon had some time getting maried. They have queen [??????????] Laws here, and it seems she had not been here long [?????] To comply with the law. It cost Hermon $25 to get a special [???????] From the [??????????] Of [??????????] I believe they had a [????[ Time for about a week and Hermon started back to Salonika with 75$!
On Saturday the 10th (When I had my weekend) a queen thing happened. Dick Weaver and I were walking down a street when a poster [????????] Past on the other side of the street carrying a [??????] With the name "W.R. Smith" painted on it. We tracked him and located another boy from my old company, wasn't that funny? The next day (Sunday) was when I met Henbent Sandnen and the other boys of the flying Corps. So it was an eventful week for meeting good old Canadain faces.
I go a letter from Bill Rotts, he is thinking of taking a commission in the R.F.A. too. So he will be at my school I hope some day, but not before I am though the school of course. We have only 4 more weeks at this school as we all passed out exams again yesterday, and are now in the "B" squad. I got 90%. We have had advanced work now and at first I found the mathematical side of it very hard but mastered it. I never was good at mathamatics and besides have not had any for 10 years to speak of. The work is intensely interesting now. Even the gun drill is, for we have started competition between the different gun teams to make the [???????] Time. [???] [????] And an a[????????] Named Vesso always try to get together and when we do we win every time, several times our new major has complemented us for the "g[?]ingen" we put into the work, saying "That's the way I like to see it done."
I met the daughter of Dr. Michael Clank m-p for Red Deer in London last Sunday. She is a friend of Sanduer's. It is a queen would isint it? Not very his after all.
Tuesday of last week was the best day I have had in England yet. The [??????] Master took us for a long horse - back ride all afternoon to Hampstead Heath, a huge wooded and valley shewn [?????]. It was great work, I simply love riding, and am tickled to death at the prospect of being mounted.
The same day I was on guard and when the guard paraded I was relieved of duty and dismissed for the day for being the cleanest man. I was quite pleased you may be [????] As I was up against [??????] Squads who all have special things to wear, but I polished my boots and [?????] Till you could see your face I them and got [???]. It was all the nicer as Sanduer [?????] His [????] And called me up to [?????] Him his [????] Which I did and had a pleasent evening at the theatre. I dont go to theatres much as I get too [?]leeps. Both Sanduer and I went to sleep that night in the theatre and it was supposed to be the [???????] Show in London.
There is not much news to tell you, I have not had any Canadain mail for 3 weeks now. I guess some ships must have been sunk all right. Neither have I got the slippers yet. I am afraid they are gone forever because they surely cannot turn up now after such a long time.
I have not written the [??????] Across the lake yet as I really have very little time to write after writing Mom and Blauche as long letters as I can. For I know you want to know all that is going on over here. So it generally takes an afternoon to write you two and perhaps another. But I will yet. You must [????] tell them the news and say I haven't forgotten them.
It is equal news about Bapaveme falling at last isn't it? It will [????] Quite a [??????]ment of the German [????] I am [?]une and isn't it eual what happening in metropolitan that [???????] [?????] [???????] [????] Be a wonder.
I am quite pleased at events in Russia, it is now quite certain that at last that [????] Nation is about to win her own soul, and become really great, with a proper government. They are taking the right steps too, setting free postictal offenders, and making speech, religion, and the press free. That will mean that the [???????] Then of the country have full scope for their power hence forth. Note the lead of the advantages of the new regime is the [???????] To the supreme [????????] Of squad [?????] [???????]. We may expect [???] things from Russia yet. I feel sorry for the [???] As does all England. But I guess he was not strung enough to cope with the old autocracy and PW Germanism particularly as he had a wife whom the Russian soldiers call "the German women"
I am quite confident that there will be a big advance on the western front this summer as do all military men. At the school we are [????] A lot of [???????] For the aphn warfare which is expected.
Well this is all the news just now. I will write again next Saturday or Sunday without fail.
Yours [??????????????]
Harry
P.S. we have only 4 weeks more at the school when we go to [????????] For a months special [?????????] Summers, [?????] etc.Transcriber
