StandardDescription
An electronic autofocus flash unit featuring a variable "zoom" head that can be manually adjusted to match the focal length of the lens being used, typically ranging from 28mm to 85mm. This unit is a dedicated model for Nikon (indicated by the "-N" suffix and the "NIKON" label on the control panel), designed to communicate directly with the camera's light meter and autofocus system. The back panel includes a manual calculator slide for ISO settings (ranging from 25 to 1000) and aperture values, allowing the user to determine the effective flash range in both meters and feet. It features a standard hot-shoe mount with additional pins for TTL (through-the-lens) communication, a power "on/off" switch, and a "ready" light indicator. Historically, the 728AF series was part of Vivitar’s successful line of third-party flashes that offered advanced features like AF-assist and power zooming at a lower price point than manufacturer-branded equipment.Category
