StandardDescription
The Agfa B2 Speedex is a classic American-made folding camera, produced by Agfa-Ansco in Binghamton, New York. It represents the height of "vest pocket" design, where a camera capable of taking large, high-quality negatives could be folded down into a flat, portable package. When the red button on top is pressed, the front door springs open, and the bellows extend the lens into its taking position.Technically, this camera produces $6 \times 6$ cm square negatives on standard 120 film. It features an Agfa Anastigmat 85mm f/4.5 lens in a shutter with speeds up to 1/250 second. Because it is a "folding" camera, it relies on manual scale focusing; you must estimate the distance to your subject and rotate the front element of the lens to match. The back of the camera features a circular "Red Window." In the 1940s, film did not have a motorized counter; instead, you would wind the film while watching through this window until you saw the number "1" printed on the paper backing of the film.Category
