Description

The Agfa Iso-Rapid C was the European manufacturing giant’s primary response to the Kodak Instamatic, utilizing the "Rapid" film system to offer a drop-in loading experience that bypassed the need for traditional threading or rewinding. Unlike Kodak's 126 cartridges, the Rapid system utilized standard 35mm film stock housed in specialized metal cassettes, producing square 24x24mm exposures. The "C" designation indicates compatibility with four-shot flashcubes, which were synchronized via the Parator shutter offering two basic speeds: "Sunny" (1/80s) and "Shade" (1/40s). Despite its high build quality and ergonomic "prismatic" grip, the system was eventually marginalized by the overwhelming market dominance of the Instamatic format. Today, the camera remains a mechanical curiosity, as it is only operable by hand-loading contemporary 35mm film into scarce, vintage Rapid cassettes in total darkness.
