Description

The legendary Canon AE-1 in the collection. This unit is historically significant for having a serial number in the 4-million range, placing it toward the middle-to-late production cycle. It is paired with the later "New FD" 50mm f/1.8 lens, which swapped the older silver breech-lock ring for a faster all-black bayonet mount. Technically, the AE-1 is a shutter-priority automatic camera, meaning the user selects the shutter speed (located on the top right dial) and the camera's internal CPU selects the aperture. This specific camera is outfitted with two very practical "enthusiast" accessories: Rubber Collapsible Lens Hood: Mounted on the front of the lens, this helps prevent lens flare from side lighting and offers physical protection to the front glass element. Circular Eyecup: The large rubber cup on the viewfinder prevents stray light from entering your eye while composing, making it much easier to see the internal light meter needle in bright daylight. This model requires a 4LR44 6V battery to operate. Without it, the camera will not fire, as the shutter is electromagnetically controlled. It’s interesting to note that this camera has a distinct personal touch with the heavy-duty leather strap protectors (the "ears" over the metal lugs), which prevent the metal rings from scratching the silver finish of the camera body—a sign that a previous owner took excellent care of this "Brick" of the SLR world.
