Description

The Canon AE-1 Program is the sophisticated successor to the original AE-1 (which you also have in your collection). While it looks very similar, it introduced one massive feature: "Program" mode. In this mode, the camera’s CPU automatically selects both the shutter speed and the aperture, effectively turning a high-end SLR into a point-and-shoot. This made it one of the most popular student cameras of all time. Technically, this unit is a "New FD" era body, paired with the 50mm f/1.8 bayonet-mount lens. You can see the green "PROGRAM" text on the top dial; when set here (and with the lens set to "A"), the camera handles everything. Another subtle but important upgrade over the original AE-1 is the removable action grip (the black plastic piece on the front left), which significantly improves handling.
