Description

The Canon Sure Shot 70 Zoom is a classic mid-90s compact autofocus camera, part of the highly successful Sure Shot line. While your Canon AE-1 represents the manual era of the 70s, this camera represents the peak of consumer automation before the digital revolution. It was designed to be a "do-it-all" travel camera that could easily fit into a coat pocket. Technically, this camera features a high-quality 35-70mm zoom lens. One of its most unique features is the built-in "Soft Filter", which can be seen labeled on the front sliding cover. When engaged, it adds a dreamlike, hazy glow to portraits—a very popular aesthetic in the 90s. The camera also features fully automatic film loading, winding, and rewinding, as well as an intelligent autofocus system that could handle off-center subjects. The back of the camera is remarkably simple, with a large, bright viewfinder and a slider to toggle the flash between Auto, On, and Off. On the bottom, you can see the tripod mount and the battery door. This model typically runs on a single CR123A lithium battery, which is still widely available today.
