This SmartMedia to PCMCIA adapter was used to transfer photos from early digital cameras that used SmartMedia cards to laptop computers equipped with a PCMCIA slot, - a common setup before USB card readers became ubiquitous. SmartMedia was a popular memory format in the late 1990s and early 2000s used by Olympus, Fujifilm, and other early digital camera makers before being completely superseded by SD cards by the mid-2000s. A small but authentic artifact of the awkward early infrastructure of consumer digital photography.
