Description

This is the "Holy Grail" of many camera collections. The Hasselblad 500C is a masterpiece of Swedish engineering and modular design. It is famous for its incredible build quality and its role in history—a modified version of this camera was used by NASA astronauts on the Apollo moon missions. The system is entirely modular: the lens, the viewfinder (waist-level finder shown here), the film back, and the winding crank can all be swapped out. It uses a "leaf shutter" located inside the lens rather than the camera body, allowing for flash synchronization at all shutter speeds. Image Z91_5104 shows the rear of the camera with the film back removed. The number UV 118703 provides the date code. In Hasselblad's "VHPICTURES" code (V=1, H=2, P=3, I=4, C=5, T=6, U=7, R=8, E=9, S=0), UV indicates the body was manufactured in 1971.
