InterestingDescription
A vintage clockwork accessory designed to facilitate "self-portraits" and group shots. The Kodak Auto-Release functions by attaching to a standard cable release, which is then inserted into the camera's shutter socket. It operates using a spring-driven piston restrained by a partial vacuum. Once triggered, a robust spring drives the piston forward; the speed of this travel—and thus the delay—is regulated by an adjustable screw at the base that controls air leakage into the chamber. When the piston reaches the end of its travel, it releases the pressure needed to fire the shutter. This device was an essential addition for cameras that lacked integrated self-timer functions, such as early Brownie or Retina models. It is often found in its original orange and yellow box and is made primarily of metal with some Bakelite components.Made/Created
