Description

The Brownie Holiday is a beautifully designed Bakelite camera that captures the transition from the old vertical box cameras to the more modern, horizontal "snapshots" style. It was designed by Arthur H. Crapsey, the man responsible for many of Kodak's most iconic mid-century looks. This camera was the more "standard" version of the Brownie Bullet we saw earlier—while the Bullet was often a promotional giveaway, the Holiday was a retail staple. It features a simple rotary shutter and a fixed-focus Kodet lens. Having the original yellow and red box (No. 179) significantly increases its value to collectors, as these cardboard containers rarely survived decades of storage. It represents the peak of Kodak's "photography for everyone" era, designed to be taken on family vacations and summer holidays.
