Description

The Kodak Duaflex IV is a classic "Pseudo-TLR" (Twin Lens Reflex) camera, designed to give the amateur photographer the look and feel of a professional medium-format camera at a fraction of the cost. While it features two lenses, the top lens is simply part of a brilliant, waist-level viewfinder rather than a coupled focusing system. This "IV" model was the final iteration of the Duaflex line, featuring a brown molded plastic body with a metal faceplate and a fixed-focus Kodet lens. It features a simple shutter with "Instant" and "Long" (Bulb) settings, and two circular ports on the side for connecting a dedicated flash unit. Like many Kodak cameras of this era, it was built specifically for 620 film, which produced large $2¼ \times 2¼$ inch square negatives. Today, it is highly valued for its mid-century aesthetic and its role in bringing the "view-from-the-top" photographic experience to the American middle class.
