Description

The Kodak Film Tank was a revolutionary "daylight" processing system. Before this, film had to be loaded into a tank in a pitch-black room. This system used a specialized celluloid apron (the black, dimpled material seen in your photos) with corrugated edges. The photographer would use a "Transfer Box" to wind the film and this apron together onto the reel. The dimples on the apron ensured that the developing chemicals could flow freely between the layers of film without them sticking together. Once rolled, the reel was placed into this nickel-plated brass tank, and the lid was screwed on tight, allowing the rest of the development process to happen in normal room light.
