The Minolta Freedom Zoom 105i is one of the most uniquely shaped "bridge" cameras of the early 1990s, looking more like a futuristic binocular than a traditional camera. The "APZ" on the front stands for Advanced Power Zoom, a high-tech feature for the time where the camera uses an infrared sensor to "guess" your subject's distance and automatically zoom the lens to frame them optimally (though this can be overridden). It features a sophisticated passive TTL phase-detection autofocus system, which was quite advanced for a compact camera. Its ergonomic, asymmetrical design was meant to be held comfortably with both hands, providing extra stability for the long 105mm end of the zoom. While bulky, it remains a favorite for collectors who appreciate the "Bio-design" aesthetic of the late 20th century.
