Description

The Minolta XG 1 was introduced as a more affordable, user-friendly sibling to the professional XD series. It is an aperture-priority automatic camera, meaning you choose the f-stop on the lens, and the camera automatically selects the correct shutter speed. It was designed during a period of fierce competition with the Canon AE-1, and it remains a favorite for its bright viewfinder and excellent ergonomics. Technically, this unit is paired with a Chinar 28mm f/2.8 lens. Chinar was a third-party lens brand (often associated with Chinon) that provided affordable wide-angle alternatives to Minolta's own Rokkor glass. A 28mm lens is perfect for landscapes and street photography, offering a much broader perspective than the standard 50mm lenses we’ve seen so far. Note on the "Soft Touch" Switch: The XG series features a unique electromagnetic shutter button. It’s touch-sensitive—simply resting your finger on the button (without pressing) activates the light meter. The camera features a self-timer (the switch on the left of the top plate) and a dedicated battery check setting. On the back, you'll find a handy ASA/DIN conversion chart printed directly onto the film door. This specific unit bears a yellow "Passed" inspection sticker and is fitted with a vintage leather strap that shows heavy verdigris (green oxidation) on the metal eyelets, suggesting it spent a long time in a humid environment or original leather case.
